Mastering Digitone Part 2: Advanced Groove Design

Get deep into groove design on the Digitone and utilise it as a complete track production machine and instrument!

Mastering Digitone part 2 is a 232 (!) minutes course aimed at people that want to get deep into the Digitone to create full tracks from the ground up. In part 1 we covered FM sound design and some groove design basics. In Part 2 we are going a lot further into groove design. We create a complex and very detailed groove and set everything up to make it easy to extend it into a full track. We take everything we've learned from part 1 and apply it to combine sound design and groove creation as a joined workflow.

With every step I explain and show exactly how to make a groove work and to make sure that it doesn't sound like a loop. On top of that I give you a lot of tools to make sure that the overal sound mix is in balance. I show you a complete workflow from start to finish to create a solid groove, a complete break and drop, and even pattern variations to be used in song mode. During the whole course I cover a lot of functionality which is explained in detail and most importantly why and when to use it effectively.

This second part of the course is perfect for intermediate and advanced Digitone users. The pace is a little quicker than part 1 and expects you to understand some FM synthesis and how to navigate the Digitone. However, for beginners it is definitely possible to follow along, but I can recommend starting with part 1 to really understand FM synthesis.

If one or more of these apply to you…

  • You have a solid understanding of FM synthesis and sound design, but would like to really squeeze everything from the Digitone as a groove machine

  • Want to learn how to create a complex and groovy low end that doesn't sound muddy and undefined

  • Want to dive deep into the multi-timbral aspect of the Digitone and get as much out of the 8 voices as possible

  • Want to learn how to use the functionality on all the parameter pages in creative and unexpected ways

  • Getting stuck and in need of an effective approach to FM sound design and Digitone groove design

  • Getting along with Digitone just fine but want to get out of loopy patterns and make more interesting tracks

  • Getting a bit stuck on the Elektron workflow and want learn a very effective workflow from start to finish

  • Bought the Digitone to create sounds and grooves, but ultimately use it more like a preset machine

...then I’m sure you’ll love this second part of the course.
